Samaira gets her business all sewn up
Samaira Ghani is a fashion designer with a degree in embroidery from Manchester Metropolitan University. Samaira needed business planning support to take her dream from business start-up to the next level.
Based in Nottingham, Samaira’s business, which she started in 2012, combines influences from the East and the West – a mix of styles merge to create unique, haute couture pieces that are truly ‘one offs’.
Samaira also offers a made to measure service to most of her clients, giving them an opportunity to get the dress they want. Samaira said “I wanted to be my own boss. I knew I had the talent and the passion for fashion and design, backed up by a relevant degree, so I knew I could really make it work!”
Samaira was introduced to Business Adviser David Hallam from NBV (part of the Nwes Group), who helped her develop her business plan and understand where she wanted to take her business next. “David helped me from the very first day. He helped me with my business plan and just supported me in getting my whole project on track.” said Samaira. “Since I started working with NBV, a huge positive change has taken place within me personally, and within my business.”
David said “We just needed to work on the business plan really – Samaira had the products, ideas, and the drive already!”
A grant helped Samaira to properly market her business, and gave her the opportunity to re-brand. She developed a company website, produced a new collection, and commission a photo shoot for her launch.
The support from David helped her successfully raise the grant finance which has taken the business from talented start-up to a real industry player. Samaira has showcased her designs in New York and Dubai, and has sold her designs to several large fashion houses.
Samaira was selected by the British Fashion Council to exhibit in the New Designer section of London Fashion Week in February and September 2015 where she produced 20 different outfits for each show.
Summarising her business start-up planning experience with NBV Samaira said “I would advise anyone facing the prospect of moving on from business start-up to contact NBV and make the most of the services and acces to finance that they have to offer. Why wouldn’t you?”
Samaira Ghani is a client of NBV (part of the Nwes Group) which supports businesses in the East Midlands.
Under the Ready for Business scheme Samaira received 35 hours of support, 6 days of training, created 3 jobs, and raised £10,000 to invest in her business.
