Business support brings smiles all round
The dedicated advice we received from our Start & Grow Enterprise Coach was a real asset Maria Francia Iniguez
Michael O’Rourke utilised his 40+ years’ experience in the denture laboratory environment to set up his own manufacturing facility at the end of last year, alongside business partner Maria Francia Iniguez.
With the potential to enjoy better employment, and the opportunity to offer high quality products to the market, the duo were keen to get started…but with no real understanding of what was required to set up the business, they needed help.
Specialising in the manufacture of metal components for removable dentures, from the very beginning, the business required funds to purchase the right machinery. The purchases weren’t always right either. Business was slow when they started, but then picked up too quickly – with the business owners having no clear plan for dealing with such quick growth.
“It felt like we encountered every teething problem possible on our journey – but the dedicated advice we received from our Start & Grow Enterprise Coach was a real asset.” said Maria.
Enterprise Coach Darren Preston from BES helped Mike and Francia produce a clear business plan to ensure the best chance of long term success.
The Start & Grow programme also helped them secure a Virgin StartUp Loan of £25,000 and has given them a structure to follow as their business develops. Thanks to the training, the business owners understand the value in stepping back to review things on a quarterly basis and they are confident about setting targets for the future.
Chrome Design started trading in December 2015 and has already created two full time jobs and an apprenticeship. Less than six months in, they are already busy with orders and confident that the business will go from strength to strength.
Michael and Maria are clients of BES, delivering support in the West Midlands for National Enterprise Network.
Under the Start & Grow programme Michael and Maria received 12 hours of support. They created 3 jobs, and leveraged £25,000 in finance with a commitment to ongoing investment in the business.
